MY YOGA JOURNEY
HOW IT STARTED
In 2013 I had my first experience with Yoga. I wanted to try something new and had no idea of what to expect. I remember how overwhelmed I was with all the new postures, the subtle alignment details and the desire to flow through my practice as elegantly as everyone else in the room did...they all seemed to be so advanced in their practice. "Connecting the movement with the breath" as my teacher said, was impossible for me at the time, but everyone else seemed to manage. Looking backwards, I haven't understood what Yoga truly is about. The only thing I knew is that after this lesson I had the best sleep of my life.
MY FIRST LEARNINGS
Over time I started not only to feel the relaxing physical effects of my practice, but also to notice a shift in my perception of me as a Yogi. It was not important anymore what my fellow Yogis were doing - if they could bring their heels closer to the floor in Downward Facing Dog than I could, or if they managed to stay in head stand for 5 minutes, whereas I was struggling to be in any kind of inversion for that long. I became more patient and less judgmental with myself realising that Yoga is not about flexibility or strength: it is about awareness of your body and mind.
HOW YOGA HAS HELPED ME
The more regular my practice became the more I could feel how my mental and physical wellbeing was changing. After years of severe anxiety about my health, Yoga taught me to shift my focus away from physical symptoms and overly exaggerated worries, towards being in the present moment and being able to distinguish what is happening now and in the real world, and what is only my mind trying to distract me.
Besides the physical asana practice, meditation and pranayama (breathing) techniques helped me so much on my way to live a normal live without anxiety.
Especially during my pregnancy and labour - a situation that would have definitely triggered me back in the days- Yoga was a dear friend that helped me to experience relaxing 9 months and a smooth delivery!
ME AS A YOGA TEACHER
In 2020 I decided to complete my 200h Yoga Teacher Training with One Yoga in Thailand in order to share my experience with others, in the hope that many more people will benefit from Yoga as much as I have had.
Yoga for me is a perfect combination of physical and mental training, a great tool for self-reflection and personal development in order to become a better - and hopefully happier - version of ourselves. That's why my classes always consist of a meditation and asana (physical) practice and are themed to give us the opportunity to reflect on different topics that directly or indirectly affect our wellbeing.
Besides that I am also a certified pre-/postnatal Yoga teacher who loves accompanying women during the most exciting journey of their life.
